Complete with Venetian décor and antique furnishings, Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal is within walking distance from Saint Mark’s Square and overlooks the Grand Canal. The four-storey hotel faces the island of San Giorgio, and the Church of Santa Maria della Salute, built to honor the Virgin Mary after prayers for the extermination of the Venetian plague in 1630 were answered. Unhampered views of the latter are offered from the hotel’s Grand Canal Restaurant on a canal-side terrace, serving traditional Venetian cuisine of fresh seafood and vegetables, and its Grand Canal Bar.

The structure of Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal is a slice of Venice’s history: the hotel’s grand ballroom was originally a 17th century palazzo owned by a royal family, who in 1638 gave permission for Venice’s first casino to open on the site. This was closed in 1774 by authorities over moral grounds. The palazzo then became a theater before it was combined with the adjacent 19th century buildings and converted in to the present hotel.
