This picturesque city is the largest in Scandinavia but it continues to hold onto its historic roots. It’s marked with cobblestone streets, perfect for pedestrians and bicyclists. The charming houses line these narrow streets, creating one interesting district after the other. There’s no real city center so you can explore any part of the city and still find a great museum, restaurant or park to spend your days. And to make your way across the city, Copenhagen has over 2000 bicycles that can be borrowed and returned at any of the 150 racks located throughout the city. This fantastic city really does want its visitors to see all that it has to offer.

Copenhagen has many great attractions, but one of its most popular is the Tivoli Gardens. It is an amusement park but not a typical North American theme park. It’s a 20-acre garden that showcases live bands, restaurants, tiny lakes, a Ferris wheel, flowers and great rides. At night, there are over 100,000 colored lanterns that illuminate the Chinese pagoda and the main fountain. Tourists are drawn to this amazing place just as much as the locals are.

Another interesting Copenhagen attraction is The Little Mermaid. Located in Langelinie on the harbor, this little lady causes quite a stir among the tourists. It’s a life-size statue, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s story, The Little Mermaid. And although the statue in its self isn’t much to write home about, it’s the most famous woman in all of Copenhagen.

Exploring this castle is a must. The Christiansborg Slot is the perfect place to see how royalty lived. It’s a massive granite castle that’s protected by the canal on three sides. Its most noticeable feature though is the Blå Tårn, the Blue Tower. It used to house prisoners and one of its most famous guests was Eleonore Christine, suspected to being part of her husband's treason plot. Yup, a perfect place to see how royalty lived.

Feel like doing some shopping? Welcome to the longest pedestrian mall on the planet. The Strøget is filled with fantastic stores, restaurants, theaters and museums. It also serves as a great reminder of Denmark's past. Make sure you give yourself enough time to explore this shopper’s paradise.

Whether it’s the museums, shops, restaurants, or tours along the canals, Copenhagen has something that everyone can enjoy. Even the littlest site is a local favorite, which will soon make it one of your favorite places to visit.
