Quebec Province Guide

You can experience a bit of France right in Canada. Québec is a province brimming full of culture and thus you will be treated to fantastic cuisine, beautiful architecture and a thriving arts community. As one of Canada’s oldest cities, it is filled with history. This province is also home to a large French population. In fact, it has one of the largest French populations outside of Paris. Whether you stroll along the cobblestone streets, take advantage of the ski hills or tour the interesting sites, Québec is sure to have what you are looking for.

The architecture found throughout the province shows its long history. Copper roofs, beautiful designs and impressive engineering can be seen throughout. If you only have time for a few stops make your way to the Notre-Dame de Québec Cathedral. It is one of the first cathedrals to have been built in North America. Another interesting site includes the Citadelle, whose star-shaped structure took more than 30 years to complete. Old Montreal provides you with great examples of historic buildings as well.

Enjoying the flourishing countryside and beautiful scenery Québec has to offer is a treat for all. Mont-Tremblant attracts the ski bunnies eager to show off their moves and the wealth of hiking trails located throughout the province are a great way to see the beauty up close. Montreal is home to many islands. Although these are not your typical palm tree filled islands, they do provide you with great attractions. Its two most popular ones include the Ile Notre-Dame and Saint Helen’s Island.

What vacation could be considered complete without a little shopping? Québec has its fair share of great boutiques, markets and malls. However, one of its more unique venues are the shops that exist below the streets of Montreal. This maze of shopping is filled with fantastic stores, cafés, theatres and even a university campus. There are close to 20 miles for you to cover so it might be a good idea to wear comfortable shoes... or you could just buy a pair while there.

Québec hosts great festivals throughout the year. One of its most popular events though occurs when the snow has already fallen. The Winter Carnival is one of the largest of its kind in the world. Thousands of participants come to enjoy the great food, ice sculpture contests and great entertainment. If you needed yet another reason to come, Québec has some of the finest dining in the world. The various cultures that call it home show off their traditional meals in the numerous restaurants available. Québec is also a lush province and thus it is known for the abundance of fruits and vegetables it produces. Make sure you save room for the delicious French pastries.

How lovely to know that a place such as Québec exists. This impressive province is a must for anyone who loves history, the arts, beautiful scenery and interesting sites. Bon Voyage.
