Charlottetown

Although Charlottetown is one of the smaller provincial capitals, it offers an impressive collection of sites for you to enjoy. It is a beautiful place and soon after you arrive you will begin to appreciate the great things a tiny city can offer. Half the fun is discovering all that it has. Plus, the friendly people are eager to show off the fantastic sites and show you its hidden treasures.

One of the finest homes in Charlottetown is the impressive Beaconsfield House. You can tour the many rooms, fireplaces and exquisite decorations all year long. Another ‘house’ worth visiting is the Province House National Historic Site of Canada. Shoppers will enjoy Charlottetown as well. Some of the best shopping will be found along Historic Queen Street, Victoria Row and the impressive Waterfront. Charlottetown is also a short drive away from some of the finest beaches Prince Edward Island has to offer.

The harbour is a great place to view the ships coming in and out. Enjoy strolling along the Waterfront and enjoy the wonderful restaurants, cafes and quaint stores that line the way. You could also learn a bit of Canadian history at Founder’s Hall, which is located along the Waterfront as well.

The Waterfront hosts one of the largest festivals the island has to offer. The Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival attracts thousands of visitors every year, and the numbers continue to grow. Feast on a huge variety of dishes and learn all there is to know about cooking shellfish. Enjoy a boat cruise, watch a shellfish chucking competition or be a taste tester for the best clam chowder you have ever had. No wonder so many flock to Charlottetown for this great event. Although this festival is one of the largest the island has to offer, it hosts many great events throughout the year.

Chances are that if you are coming to or going from Charlottetown you will be making your way across the impressive Confederation Bridge. Joining Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick the bridge took just over four years to complete and cost close to one billion dollars. The drive will take you about 30 minutes... and you will love every minute of it.
