Great hotel - perfect location - lots of things within walking distance!
A weekend to remember - posted on 01/16/2007
It was a pleasure to stay in such an historic hotel. I have always wanted to visit and finally had the chance. Our room, although smaller than we had anticipated had an incredibly comfy king sized bed (the most important part of the weekend!!;) I was impressed by the attention to detail from the crown mouldings right down to the embossed covers on the phone books. The only complaint from the weekend is that we had to pay extra for internet access, which we felt should have been included. The location was also excellent as there were plenty of food and entertainment venues within easy walking distance. The close proximity to Union Station was very handy. Easy to get wherever you want to go. Overall, a great weekend in downtown Toronto.

THe room was clean but very small. 2 people in this room would run into each other. The bathroom was extremely small with barely enough room for 1 person.
Needs Improvement: rooms are too small
Disappointed - posted on 03/02/2007
We were disppointed because one of the reasons we chose the Royal York for for the pool and whirlpool which were not available to us. Although to some travelers this would not be a priority. We felt cheated about our stay. The hotel staff response was not very sympathetic.
Wonderful! - posted on 02/20/2007
This was my 1st stay at a 4 star hotel & I was pleasantly surpised. The service was outstanding. The staff friendly & helpful. The concierge helped us plan a walking tour of Toronto & made sure we hit all the "must sees/must do since we only had 1 day to see the city. When we asked for a dinner suggestion, he was on the phone in seconds and gave us 3 suggestions, wait times, & when we decided..he made the reservations for us without us even asking. That's service! I would stay at any of the Fairmont hotels based on the great service at the Royal York.
Class - posted on 11/13/2006
The redo at the Fairmont has resulted in class hotel. The gold floor offers the convenience frequent travelers and the demanding vacationer expect. Service was excellent at a very convenient location to the business district as well as tourist attractions.
Amazing! - posted on 11/06/2006
This is a "must stay" hotel. It's worth the extra dollars for what you get. Beautiful spotless rooms (most in downtown are a bit on the smaller side but we had no complaints here), outstanding staff, old world beauty, many amenities, and much more. Parking is expensive ($33/day valet with in-out or $24/day without) but there is no free parking in downtown hotels anyway. I've stayed in several in the Metro Toronto area and this one is the only that the wife and I will return to...soon!
A weekend away. - posted on 06/01/2006
When we arrived after 5 pm., our room was not ready for our check in. This was a little disturbing as we had travelled on the train for 4 hours, and would have liked to go to our room. We were compensated by having complimentary drinks at the lounge. We also had a misunderstanding about the usage of the $25 food vouchers at the restaurants, and had I not checked my bill at the main desk at check out, this could have been a very unpleasant situation. However, after a thorough discussion with the manager, he fixed our receipt up for us. Other than these two things, our stay was very pleasant.

The hotel itself is beautiful on the inside and out. The room was a bit dusty and we weren't pleased that we weren't informed of the $200 deposit when we booked, which caused alot of problems, but other then that, it was nice. It was rather expensive as well, so I wouldn't recommend it for everyday stay. It's more of a special occasion kind of thing.

The Fairmont Royal York combines beauty, elegance and superb location as its finest features. The staff are friendly, the food delightful, and the amenities first class.

Nice hotel - posted on 09/27/2005
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at The Fairmont. We were in town for a large convention held at the Expo center right up the street. The hotel's restaurants were a little more expensive then we are used to and the discount on parking really wasn't much of a discount. The concierges were very knowledgeable about the area. If we go up for the convention again, we will probably stay at the Fairmont again. We really enjoyed the historical pictures on the wall. Great touch!

Spectacular - posted on 08/23/2005
Service is superior. All staff are courteous, no matter the suituation. Assistance, if needed is prompt and courteous. Parking, though, through the hotel is VERY expensive $32/day. Sadly, the local public lot was funder construction, so I had to use the valet. The hotel is very large, but you never feel that you are just a number. This is a superb place to stay. Rooms are large and the beds are VERY comfprtable. I wish that I could afford to stay there more often more often!
many disappointments - posted on 08/08/2005
Check in and out was very slow. Rooms were small and dark. Our reserved rooms were not available upon arrival and we had to settle for a downgrade. Room walls are very thin and noise was intrusive. Generally noisy, overall. Some linen not clean.
Money maker - posted on 08/04/2005
I got the distinct feeling that this hotel was more interested in making money than providing services to its clients. Everything cost and the incl. services like the pool were just there to be competitive. They were small and not very accommodating.

Five star hotel for a three star price. Staff extremely friendly. Located in the heart of Toronto. Old, but recently renovated
Great stay - posted on 04/02/2005
A beautiful hotel with exceptional service! Everyone employed at the hotel gave A+ service. The proximity to the theater, restaurants, subway and the "PATH" for underground shopping was greatly appreciated, especially since it rained a bit during our stay and we could travel without getting wet. The room was large and comfortable, with a great view of Lake Ontario. The breakfast was delicious and the "Piper's Lounge" for late-night cocktails and live entertainment was wonderful. We will definitely stay here again!
Very Nice Hotel - posted on 09/15/2004
Not being a world traveler, I (we) felt this is a very nice hotel. More money than I would normally spend, but since this was my first vacation in about 10 years, I was satisfied and did not dwell on the cost. The location was great, as we were near public transportation and all the major attractions in downtown Toronto. Everything was spotless and well maintained. The staff was very polite and helpful. I highly recommend the Fairmont Royal York and would not hesitate staying there again. The sales representative at the Website was also extremely helpful and patient. Jim C.
