Lovely, comfortable hotel in the center of things - posted on 05/12/2007
I was pleasantly surprised to find such a nice, quiet, classy hotel for such a good price in the middle of downtown Toronto. It's a short walk to the subway, opera house, good restaurants, etc. The room was very nicely appointed--triple sheeting, down duvet, good-sized desk, coffee maker--and the concierges were extremely helpful and nice. Nice indoor pool, adequate workout room. I'd definitely stay there again.
Wonderful Experience - posted on 05/03/2007
Great hotel experience. Great location, great service and the little details like bathrobe, bottled water, etc. made the experience great. Excellent location-2 blocks from Dundas Sq/Eaton Ctr.

You SHOULD NOT advertise this hotel as "newly renovated." The front and the lobby are quite nice but the rooms are very clean but worn out. We were delighted to discover that the $19 daily parking fee was included in the room rate.
not for business travelers - posted on 12/11/2006
This hotel is nice if you are on vacation, I suppose, but business amenities were lacking. (the internet firewall made my life really difficult!) Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
Clean hotel with good location - posted on 11/22/2006
The Metropolitan is a very clean hotel in the heart of downtown. They had some technical problems with computers while I was there and the decor needs updated desperately. For a quick stay, it worked well for me.
Pets Welcome! - posted on 10/22/2006
The staff loved my dog here and treated us very well. I found the room very clean and well-appointed. Frette bathrobes and fine linens were a nice touch. Lai Wah Heen, the hotel's Chinese restaurant, is amazing - top-rated by Gourmet magazine for good reason. Also $$$ Hotel is in walking distance to the Eaton Center and great skating at CIty Hall almost right across the street (you can rent skates). New opera house is one-block away. One-bedroom suite was very comfortable. Staff was polite and helpful, especially nice to my pooch, which I really appreciate. My hotel of choice in Toronto.
BEWARE - posted on 09/11/2006
Expecting a 4 star? I would rate this hotel only a 2 max. Rooms were dirty, small and i would never consider staying at this hotel again.
Luxury Rooms! - posted on 08/30/2006
Beware - that if you reserve a luxury room rather than a standard room - the only luxury is internet access. I was dissappointed with my room.

Excellent location walking distance to cn tower, roger's center, panasonic theater. A block away from Young Street. Good neighborhood area to stay. Wish it would have had a cont. breakfast.
Absolutely Disappointing! - posted on 08/13/2006
BRAVO to the marketing staff for portraying this 1 star motel as a 4 star hotel. The check-in procedure was unnecessarily long and the staff was discourteous, inattentive, and uninformative throughout our stay. The rooms were extremely tiny, not the cleanest, the air conditioner shakes the room at night every time it restarts, and a staffer comes to check the mini bar each morning around 8:30am. The pool and hottub were unkept and flithy. For those who decide to book this hotel anyway, parking was extra, the "complimentary limo service" only operates between 8am - 9am.

rooms are completly different from pictres on website. Dirty. Problems with parking. No room service after 11:30pm
Good Hotel - posted on 08/03/2006
The beds were very comfortable. The shower was perfect, great pressure. The only bad thing was driving in and out of the parking garage, Had to change lanes and cross on coming traffic.

Staff made us feel low class, and often talked down to us. Wake up calls didn't come, so set the alarm. $440 hold was put on our vacation money as a security deposit without warning or notification.
Great Stay - posted on 07/26/2006
The Metropolitan has a great location as in walking distance to Eaton Centre Entertainment district. Bed turned down at night with water bottles and ice provided, nice touch. The staff was friendly and parking easy. A great hotel for the price. Only issue is bathroom did not have enough lighting and needs a stronger fan for moisture.

Went w/ girlfriend for a week of shopping. We were comp'd to the luxury room @ the deluxe rate, the concierge picked up our minibar tab for no reason and we had such a great time we added a few more days to our trip once got out there. Amazing location! 2 min walk from Eaton Ctr, Queen St. & a block from Yonge line subway. The only kick in the nuts was having to pay $20/day parking, but hey, it's TO.
An Average Hotel - posted on 05/13/2006
Good location; friendly staff, good restaurants, well-designed lobby. That said, the rooms were nothing like the ones pictured on the site; they were pink and flowery, had no mini bars, and weren't in the best shape.
Nice hotel - posted on 05/01/2006
The entrance and lobby are very inviting, the restaurants were nice. Close to China Town and a short cab ride to the Rogers Center. Some rooms did not have an internet connection and others only has a wired connection

We visit Toronto regularly and always stay at the same hotel. We tried the Metroplitan, because our usual hotel was booked. The Metropolitan is our new favorite hotel. The rooms are lovely and extremely clean, every employee was authentically polite and helpful, the location is great, and the amenities plentiful. We were very relaxed during our stay, because the staff is very friendly and warm. The staff could not do enough for us. Our only disappointment was that there are no Metropolitan Hotel in N.Y. We would very much recommend this hotel.
Good Stay - posted on 04/06/2006
Great location, less than 2 blocks from the subway and from Eaton. Walk to downtown isn't bad. Concierge was very helpful. Rooms are clean and great amenities, though a little on the small side. Pool and whirlpool were nice bonuses.
Good location, small room - posted on 03/15/2006
Hotel meets all the basics for a moderate-priced place in a large city. Very good location. Room comfort good and clean. Main complaint would be the smallish room size. Hotel including lobby lacks character. No in-room internet. This hotel should probably be rated as 3 diamonds rather than 4, but nevertheless a solid choice if your budget is limited.

My boyfriend and I are backpacking and I thought I would treat him to a night of luxury for his birthday. I stretched our budget to upgrade to a luxury room, but could have got the same quality in a basic room of a cheaper hotel! Small room, one thin pillow each + naff decor = v disappointing.
We Want To Return - posted on 08/18/2005
My family felt comfortable and welcomed by everyone. There seems to be a real positive spirit among the employees. Travelling with children is daunting at times and we never felt like we did not belong there. Our children especially enjoyed the swimming pool because it has a shallow deep end. Our goal is to return to the Metropolitan Hotel and eat in the restaurant. The Metropolitan Hotel has become our first choice for our next visit to Toronto.
Simply excellent! - posted on 07/23/2005
Perfect location - 1.5 blocks from the subway, 1 block from city hall plaza, easy walk to shopping/entertainment. We liked that it wasn't on the noisy main drag, but still was close to everything. Great service, rooms a little small but not a real issue.
I wasn't overly impressed - posted on 03/23/2005
My experience at the Metropolitan hotel was not a good one. The front desk staff was very arrogant and rude(daytime staff only - the night staff were wonderful,) and even though I had been assured by reservation staff over the phone that there would be no deposits because I was paying by cash, I was charged $100. The consierge and the valet were great, but other than that, I wasn't impressed to say the least. The cafe was closed the entire time we were there as well. The bathroom in my room was poorly cleaned. It was hardly worth the money.

it is in the preferred group, and they have always been outstanding. while the garage is small and the rooms are small, it is still very nice. dinner in the restauarant was outstanding. the location is not near shopping which is several blocks farther north.

five star rip off - posted on 10/03/2004
we checked in on a Thursday and were advised that the rates go up "slightly" on weekends, having researched the hotel we expected the slight increase of 25.00...our room rate nearly DOUBLED and when we complained, there was no satisfactory resolution. Be very careful in dealing with this establishment
