OK place - posted on 01/20/2006
Very close to train station. Useful location, across the street from the airport shuttle. Very basic place. Plain self-serve breakfast, nice staff, small clean rooms, bed ok. Just fine for a quick overnight or two, en route.
Great Location & Great Price - posted on 02/05/2007
This hotel was a pleasant surprise. The rooms are small - about the same size as you would get in NY City, but furniture is arranged to maximize the space. Location is just one block from Fairmont Royal York which has access to PATH (under ground walkway) & is a stop fo the airport bus. My room faced York st. which was noisy at night, but I was able to access free wi-fi from the building accross the street. I travel to Toronto a lot for business and would stay here again for the convience and price.
Outstanding Price for Perfect Downtown Location! - posted on 12/02/2006
Impressed with ease of check-in and room's cleanliness: everything looked brand new! Two single beds were perfect for two females, and we felt safe walking even late at night. Located 50m from PATH and subway. City parking abuts hotel, though pedestrian entrance is a block away. Weekend rate was great, but workday rate steep, so budget accordingly or take the train. Had an issue where I was charged $85 at checkout (because of discount) but I was later refunded by an extremely helpful salesperson.

I travel to Toronto by rail regularly for business and usually stay here; hotel handy to station and good location for most anything else; would love free internet, free hot breakfast and incentive program

The room was very small with no place to sit but I guess this is to be expected in consideration of the price. Clean and very well located.
So The Rooms Are Small - posted on 11/12/2005
When I read the reviews, I had the visoin of miniscule roomes, baths, etc. I had experienced a hotel like that i New York, and could barely fit in the shower. My room was cozy, well furnished and comfortable. It is convienient to Union Station and easy on the wallet. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. This is a great hotel for the budget minded traveller, especially one travelling by rail.
Great smaller hotel - posted on 10/02/2005
The Strathcona is a great smaller hotel. It is located about 3 blocks from the Toronto Convention Center and about 1 1/2 - 2 blocks from the subway. Hotel is updated, have knowledgeable staff, and in general, very nice -- not luxurious, but very nice.
compact rooms in good location - posted on 08/19/2005
Excellent downtown location one block from Union Sta and a few blocks from CN Tower; rooms are small and spartan, meant for sleeping only; bath is 6x7; tiny closet space barely enough room to store a duffle bag with 2-3 days clothes; fixtures are clean and good repair; housekeeping excellent; auto parking nearby; Richtree fresh market 2 blocks away; walking distance to pubs, clubs and theatre; one block to subway
Great Service - posted on 08/19/2005
Read a previous review so was forewarned about the room size. They are small but service is GREAT! Concierge made reservations for us at two different locations and had a problem that housekeeping addessed almost immediately. The location was great as we traveled by train and Union Station is only one block away. Within walking distance of almost everything else.

Hotel is ideally situated for exploring Toronto. Union Station & the Skywalk to the CN Tower are close by, in the other direction you are soon at the centre of the city.Hotel was in first class condition & is blessed with some very pleasant, helpful staff. Our room was well equipped if compact, king size bed was enormous.Food choice in the "pub" was limited, breakfast in the dining room was good. We would stay here again without any hesitation.
Not A Great Experience - posted on 08/07/2004
The Staff were great and the room was satisfactory at best. However, we were disappointed in a few things. It was our wedding night. I checked in with my wedding gown on, so there is no way that the staff didn't know that we just got married. It would have been a nice touch if our wedding night could have been recognized by a token champagne toast or fruit basket, but there was nothing. We were also disappointed that our room only had one bottle of water and one package of condiments. We were pretty disappointed.
