Nova Scotia Province Guide

Nova Scotia is a beautiful maritime province filled with interesting sites, beautiful nature and friendly people. It is home to one of Atlantic Canada’s largest cities as well as quaint fishing villages. Although it is one of Canada’s smallest provinces it provides you with a wealth of fantastic activities for you to enjoy as you explore this island. You just might be surprised to uncover all that it has to offer.

Victoria Park is a beautiful place to enjoy some of Nova Scotia’s beauty. Another great site are the tidal bores found in Truro’s Salmon River. The coasts of Nova Scotia are lined with beautiful beaches. One of the common sites you will see while basking in the sun are the historic lighthouses, which have become synonymous with Nova Scotia. Miles of coasts also mean great water activities. The annual sailboat race, which begins in Bar Harbour and ends in Yarmouth, draws out sailors from all over the world. There are of course fantastic whale watching cruises, fishing tours and much more for you to enjoy as well.

Nova Scotia played an integral part after the Titanic disaster. Three of the island’s ships were used to search for victims. There are a few local graveyards that have rows of headstones all marked with the same date of April 15, 1912. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic has placed the recovered items on display, which provide visitors a bit of insight as to what all happened that fateful day. The St. Paul’s Anglican Church, one of the oldest Protestant churches in the nation, can be found on Nova Scotia. Another great site is the 19th century Citadel. Standing at the top of a hill it requires a bit of work to make your way up but the trek is well worth it.

Cape Breton is a tiny island just off of Nova Scotia’s mainland. One of the interesting sites you can explore while here is the Fortress of Louisbourg. This fantastic place has been carefully restored to its earlier splendor. Many of the first immigrants who established homesteads on the island hailed from Scotland. One of the more famous Scottish immigrants that landed here, and who is buried here, is the legendary Alexander Graham Bell. You will find a National Historic Site named in is honor on Cape Breton Island as well. Cape Breton’s Sydney Harbor and the boardwalk is a great place to enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding areas.

Your evenings in Nova Scotia can be spent enjoying walks along the harbour fronts, watching an event at the impressive Centre 200 or feasting on the fresh lobster at the great restaurants. Although the island is small, it has two impressive casinos for you try out your luck. You can find a Casino Nova Scotia in both Halifax and Sydney.

This quaint island is packed full of adventure and beautiful sites. Visiting here will creating lasting memories. I guess the old saying is true – good things do come in small packages.
