Gander is best known for the role it played in the aviation industry. It is home to the North Atlantic Aviation Museum, a top-rated flight school and even has a festival to honor the industry. The Museum contains vintage aircrafts and is a must for those interested in learning more about its history. The Festival of Flight draws out thousands of visitors every summer. There are parades, fireworks, delicious food and lots more. Two of the more sobering sites Gander has to offer are the Silent Witnesses Memorial and the Cross of Sacrifice. Both recognize those who perished in a 1985 plane crash.
The Mighty Gander River is a great place to go rafting. As hard as you will be concentrating on staying dry, keep your head up and see the wildlife and nature that surrounds you. Enjoy the scenery as you make your way to Terra Nova National Park, which is about an hour away from Gander. It provides you with a first hand look at how a habitat can flourish when it is protected. Hopefully you will catch a glimpse of the wildlife that calls it home. The Kittiwake Coast runs right through Gander and thus, you will be treated to beautiful beaches, clear water and enjoy great outdoor activities. Whether you go sailing, swimming or soak up the warmth of the sun, this coast provides you with plenty of ways to enjoy Ganders nature.
