Best Western Charterhouse Hotel Downtown Winnipeg in Winnipeg Manitoba

A very convenient location for the train station - posted on 11/15/2006

Needed a place to stay on our way to Churchill to see the polar bears- they are about 4 blocks from the train station and will pick you up if you have a lot of luggage. Rooms are totally adequate with a fridge and microwave, but they were quite warm, had to run the A/C to cool it down. Nice central location to the free buses that run around town for the tourists and a great value for the money.

OK, but - posted on 08/14/2006

We were in Wpg. for a wedding and arrived at the hotel late. We were met at the hotel entrance by 2 young people asking for money. Not a good first impression. There were a lot of people out and about the streets and parking area at 1:00a.m. and I (female) would have not felt comfortable coming in from the parking lot if I had been by myself or just there with the kids. We had previously stayed at the CharterHouse a number of years ago and it was good then, partly why I chose it this time. I do not think I will choose this hotel again, too much downtown street ambiance for my liking. We will drive further and stay out in the burbs. Room was clean, had to pay for parking, service ok. ?? How does this hotel get a five star rating.
