Thompson is a renowned northern mining town where history is celebrated and nature is carefully preserved.
Paint Lake Provincial Park is located in the Precambrian boreal forest. The park itself spreads across 50,000 acres and the lakes, trails, playgrounds and volleyball courts are some of the reasons so many visit. The other is that it is home to one of Manitoba’s largest marinas. Another short drive away lies Pisew Falls. Home to some of the largest waterfalls in Manitoba, you will be treated to the stunning nature that flourishes here. If you have had enough of the beauty that exists above ground you could try to book a mine tour and explore the natural elements that thrive below.

While the summer months bring out the hikers and fishers, the winter months bring out the snowmobilers. Cross Country 100 and Snocross are a few of the events that celebrate this favorite winter pastime. Thompson also has its fair share of curling bonspiels and Mystery Mountain provides skiers and snowboarders a chance to improve their techniques.
Thompson hosts two major festivals. Winterfest is held in February and is filled with great entertainment. Nickel Days is a summertime party where fun is the name of the game.
