Brandon is affectionately known as the Wheat City. It has, and continues to, play a large role in the Canadian agriculture industry. Whether you travel when they are seeding or harvesting it is quite a site to see the huge machines move gracefully across the plains. There is a lot more to this city than wheat fields though.
Located along the Assiniboine River, the picturesque city of Brandon is filled with great ways to spend your time. Curling is truly a Canadian sport and Brandon is the place to watch it. It has hosted the World Curling championships, the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials and both men and women’s championship events. The game can seem quite simple at first but the more you watch and learn, the more aware you are about the precision and skills required. Another Canadian sport is hockey. Although the NHL has never called Brandon home the local team, the Wheat Kings, draw out huge crowds. Whether you come to cheer or want to learn more about the game, this team plays to impress. The Wheat Kings play in the impressive Keystone Centre. This massive complex houses everything and anything you would want to see. Concerts, wrestling, curling, the circus, hockey, figure skating, winter and summer fairs... the list goes on and on. The Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium also has its fair share of shows and events although it is much smaller than the grand Keystone Centre. Make sure to check to see what is happening at either venue while you are in town.

Brandon also has a fantastic collection of parks and trails ideal for biking and walking so get out and enjoy the scenery that surrounds you. Downtown Brandon is made up of historic buildings filled with quaint boutiques and great restaurants. One of the more unusual sites you can visit while in Brandon is the Westman Reptile Gardens. Claiming to be Canada’s largest reptile exhibit you will see a huge collection of creepy, crawly animals sure to please the adventurous persons/kids traveling with you. Not into all that? Brandon also has a variety of museums that include the Carousels and Dolls Doll Museum, Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Daly House Museum.
Explore the parks, cheer on the Wheat Kings, try your hand at curling or simply enjoy the museums. Whatever you decide to do, Brandon is a great place to visit.
