Where would you find beautiful white sandy beaches, the birthplace of Winnie the Pooh and a thriving arts community? It is the same place where history has been carefully preserved and home to some of the friendliest people in the nation. Welcome to Manitoba. This province takes advantage of its four-seasoned climate offering you a wealth of opportunities to enjoy it all.
Manitoba makes the most of its winter months. Although the NHL left over a decade ago the locals continue to support its hockey teams. In fact, Manitoba has more hockey rinks than any other province or state. Cheer on the Manitoba Moose at the impressive MTS Centre, which is a great concert venue as well, or make your way to Brandon and watch the Wheat Kings at the Keystone Centre. Other great winter activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling and curling. One of the best festivals this province has to offer includes the Festival du Voyageur. Celebrate the French culture as you enjoy delicious food, see fantastic ice sculptures and take part in the various activities provided. Yes, it can get a tad cold here but if you dress appropriately you can take advantage of the wonderful activities that await.
Once the snow melts away, Manitoba becomes a lush province filled with great activities for you to enjoy. The streets are lined with cyclists and joggers eager to breathe in the warm air. The beaches are some of the finest in Canada and are packed with sunbathers and boaters. The outdoor café tables and patio restaurants are filled with patrons enjoying the great meals Manitoba has to offer. Sport enthusiasts can cheer on the Blue Bombers (CFL) and the Gold Eyes, which is a minor league baseball team. There are also many fantastic festivals. Winnipeg’s Fringe Festival is one of the largest in Manitoba. Concerts, plays and comedy acts bring out the people by the thousands each night it is on. Another great event is the Morden Corn and Apple Festival where you can enjoy all the free cider and corn your body can handle. The Gimli Film Festival is a great event where live music, great food and sandcastle contests are only a few of the items on the agenda.
Manitoba is filled with exciting sites, some historical and others quite unique. Much of the architecture found in its capital city Winnipeg mimics that of Chicago. Its St. Boniface area has great historical buildings worth exploring. This city is also home to the windiest corner in all of Canada, Portage and Main. The Forks is the meeting point of the Assiniboine River and Red River. Today you will find great boutiques, restaurants and walking paths for you to enjoy. For the more unique sites make your way to Brandon’s Westman Reptile Gardens, which is one of Canada’s largest reptile exhibits, or Winnipeg’s Mint. The Mint plays an important role in the currency that exists in our world. In addition to its great beaches and boating areas, Manitoba is filled with forests and wildlife. Thompson’s Pisew Falls are the largest in Manitoba and Winnipeg’s Assiniboine Forest and Fort Whyte Center provide you with first hand looks into the nature that thrives here. History buffs will enjoy exploring Fort La Reine and seeing how the pioneers survived.
Friendly Manitoba is a great province to learn about history, enjoy festivals and explore all the great sites it has to offer.
