Edmonton International Airport is the 5th busiest airport in Canada by passenger traffic, and the 13th busiest by aircraft movements.The main focus of Edmonton International Airport is scheduled, commercial passenger and cargo flights. It is the primary air passenger and air cargo facility in Edmonton, Alberta and a major hub facility for Northern Alberta and Northern Canada. It served 4.5 million passengers in 2005 and is operated by the Edmonton Airports Authority.Originally constructed in 1960, the airport has undergone a CDN$350 million renovation and expansion program from 1996-2004 which included the construction of a new terminal, a multi-level parking facility, central hall, commuter facility and a doubling of the aircraft apron. Future plans include the development of an in-terminal hotel, expansion of the parking facility and renovation of the original terminal.
