Although celebrated all over America, the Independence Day celebrations in Washington DC, the nation’s capital, are the biggest and glitziest in the country. The celebrations include a day of concerts, parades, flag-waving and fireworks. The parade begins on Constitution Avenue and 7th Street and consists of marching bands and colourful floats. A National Folklife Festival on the Mall features different cultures in the Americas and a variety of ethnic groups representing all the faiths and ethnicities that make up the country. The day ends at the Washington Monument with a loud and fantastic fireworks display, which is reputed to be one of the biggest in the world. The day marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776 and is a national holiday throughout the country
