Pioneer Day is a major state holiday celebrated with a week of activities, including a children's parade, a horse parade and a rodeo. It culminates with the Days of '47 parade, and a large fireworks show at Liberty Park. It's a celebration of the arrival of the first settlers to the Salt Lake Valley and remembers Utah's early pioneers who first settled there in 1847. Some groups re-enact the long journey pulling covered wagons and the parade features many tributes to those early days
