One of the most famous New Year’s Eve celebrations in the world, people have been gathering in New York’s Times Square to welcome in the New Year ever since 1904. One of the most famous aspects of the celebrations is the lowering of the Times Square New Year's Eve Ball, a spectacle that first took place in 1907. The huge ball is adorned with bright lights and each year is lowered from One Times Square to mark the start of a new year. With live entertainment, tickertape showers, fireworks and a whole load of razzmatazz, millions of television viewers around the world join the huge international crowds assembled in the square in the count down to midnight to welcome in the New Year. This is one of the biggest parties of the year that’s not to be missed. And what’s more, it’s all for free
