The 42km (26.2 miles) marathon takes in many of the most famous sites and streets of San Francisco. Starting from the Embarcadero at the renovated Ferry Building and Food Mart, the course goes west through Fisherman's Wharf and up Fort Mason hill with spectacular views of the Bay and of the Golden Gate Bridge. It continues along the Marina, crosses the Golden Gate Bridge then loops round and returns across the bridge. The route also takes in Golden Gate Park, Stow Lake, the Japanese Tea Garden, and the famous Haight Ashbury District. The course ends along the water front back where it started at the Ferry Building. There will be waved starts and a 6-hour time limit. There is also a half marathon and 5km (3 miles) run/walk
