Venue: Riverside and central locations. Includes Civic Terrace and Festival Plaza
For many years the International Freedom Festival, celebrated jointly by Windsor and its cross-border neighbour Detroit, was one of the biggest entertainment events in the region featuring a lavish fireworks display. They were celebrating the Independence Day of Canada (1 July) and of the USA (4 July). Financial pressures in 2003 put paid to the festival in its traditional form on the Canadian side, but a summer festival still takes place, with a big funfair on the riverfront which features amusements, rides, food and game booths
