Venue: Birds Hill Provincial Park. 34 km (20 miles) northeast of Winnipeg
Since the first Winnipeg Folk Festival in 1974, musicians from around the world have headed to Birds Hill Park to entertain thousands of fans. About 80 artists perform electric and acoustic folk music, blues, world, traditional, bluegrass, Celtic, roots, and other styles, on six daytime stages and the spectacular evening main stage. The top class musicians include unknown as well as leading names. Some stars represent the broader spectrum, including Emmylou Harris, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Lila Downs and Dr John. In a Folk Camp, audience members can bring their instruments and join in with workshops given by performers. In the largest tent, a children's and family entertainment programme runs through the day, and alternative programming (anything from circus acts, film, dance and DJs) takes place in the evenings. A Craft Village offers artisans’ products including silk works, stained glass, birch bark articles and custom-made instruments. Food stalls provide samples of cuisine from around the world
