Venue: English Bay. Bay Avenue
Far more than just a fireworks display – HSBC Celebration of Light is claimed to be the largest fireworks competition in the world. Three countries battle it out in a bid to be crowned as the champions of the display. The result is a spectacle of flashes and bangs on an enormous scale. A barge is anchored in English Bay, in full view of the western side of the city and seen to best advantage from English Bay, Kitsilano, Vanier Park, Jericho Beach or West Vancouver. Well over a million people turn up to watch the free show from public parks and beaches. Held on four separate nights, each show lasts for about 25 minutes, building to the grand finale on the Saturday night when all three contestants pull out all the pyrotechnic stops, while a simultaneous music festival is played on local radio
