Welcome To Mad City!
Madison is comprised of a lot of not-so-square miles surrounded by reality --- or so a distortion of the cliché goes. Madison is actually a pretty cool place to live, and an even better place to visit. So we hope your visit encompasses all the reality or lack there of that suits your fancy.
A little geography for this opening blog: We are a diverse city of just over 220, 000, though the entire metropolitan area is over 400,000, including the city's immediate suburbs. Oh, yes! We are big enough to have suburbs. Imagine the moon with lots of large, very individualized rocks floating around it.
The core of Madison is an isthmus sitting between two lakes. And the State Capitol Building sits right smack in the center of the isthmus. Lake Mendota is about a six block walk from the Capitol Building and Lake Monona is about three blocks away. From there, the city spreads out like an hour glass. However, the hour glass has grown out and around and now surrounds both lakes as well as the smaller Lake Wingra.
There's lots to do in Madison, whether it's outdoor activities, indoor events, musical entertainment, sports, shopping, or dining. Bit by bit, I'll lay them out. So watch for future blogs to get the scoop on what's what in Mad City USA.
