Sweet Petula: Approachable Luxe
On my regular Saturday morning sojourn to Essential Bakery on Madison this weekend I was delighted to find a new shop had set out its sandwich board. The sign was a lovely shade of robin's egg blue, surrounded by scripty brown text and without even reading what wares were being offered I thought "ooh, this looks girly and fun!" I ventured inside and was not disappointed. Delicately fragranced homemade soaps, candles, balms and sea salts perched around the entire perimeter of the store showcase feminine but not too frilly bed linens and super-soft pajamas. Purses created from vintage fabrics and unique Franco-inspired greeting cards round out the space. The overall effect is one of comforting indulgence without being snobby in any way.
The star of Sweet Petula is definitely their house-brand Spa Luxury collection. Using all natural essential oils, they've managed to come of the with the most addictive fragrances: Sea Spa is a refreshing scent that really does make you think of a luxury resort spa. Ruby Grapefruit, and Fresh Lavender are both pure heaven without being cloying. But my personal favorite is sweet, spicy Bay Rum which I picked up in the Ground Walnut Exfoliating Body Wash ($14). All these scents are also available as sea salt bath soaks, shea butter lotions, moisture balms and aromatherapy mists. (I will going back for the latter next Saturday, as well as the handmade Ginger Blossom Olive Oil bar soap). The products still made locally in Burien where Sweet Petula also maintained their storefront for seven years before moving to Madison Valley.
The official opening of Sweet Petula's new location is tomorrow, August 7th.
