Wayward Cafe for the Vegan Gourmet - Seattle

The spirit of 1971

I received quite a few comments on my entry of April 16, 2007 Gluten Free Dining in Seattle.
People seem to be on the look-out for restaurants where dietary restrictions are taken seriously, not just for themselves, but for their friends as well.

I'd like to add a vegan restaurant to the list of April 16.

Looking into the Wayward Cafe took me straight back to 1971, when friends in Groningen, the capital of the like-named province in the Netherlands started feeding vegan friends in their apartment. Not long after, it turned out that there was such a need for and interest in their cuisine, that they moved the whole affair to an other location, where they opened a real restaurant.

For a taste of the good old times, or a straight forward vegan adventure head for the Wayward Cafe.

Folks that enjoy eating gluten free, might enjoy the blog of Shauna James at
http://glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com/. It is packed full of resources and tips and has been nominated for a bloggers choice award.

I am all about healthy eating, but I go the opposite way of vegan. After reading the work of Sally Fallon and others at http://www.westonaprice.org/index.html, I am convinced that our bodies need old-fashioned animal fats and things like good old coconut oil to thrive and we are actully starving for them. The culinary customs of our ancestors. Bring on the meat, butter, bone broths, raw milk prepared in traditional ways. Modern grains and new-fangled vegetable oils have been killing us slowly for many years now.

Emeraldblogger,

Thanks for stopping by.
For people who suffer from food intolerances certain diets leaving out particular products can save a lot of pain (in the neck, butt and elsewhere).

Everybody had to fend for him or herself, our bodies are all different. What's good for you, may be bad for me.

What's key in my home, is colorful palette on the plate, a balanced regime of wholesome foods, and leaving out (for me) harmful substances.
Just like in gardening, you've got to rotate the plants, roots, vegetables and fruits. Beef, fish, fowl, game, lamb, I love it all, and I'll cook and eat almost anything except for pork and shellfish, crab and lobster.

But, my own restrictions often mean I have to eat it all at home, for it's the things people put in their dishes my body may have a problem with.

I love a little butter to make the perfect sauce for any dish or occasion, churn ice cream to die for, and love my stock pot, but you won't catch me with coconut or palm oils, or corn syrup for that matter.

Oh, I almost went off on a tangent, forgetting that this is a service site and the objective is to help visitors to Seattle find what they're looking for. Oops.
