Seattle Wine Outlet: Seattleites Say "Give Me More!"
I recently attended the opening of Richard Kinssies' second Seattle Wine Outlet location hoping to score some good, cheap vino for my upcoming birthday party. I'm not talking cheap like Trader Joe's "two buck Chuck," but definitely under $15 a bottle. When I arrived at the opening, I was delighted by the number of options in this price point. And overwhelmed by the number of city folk who also showed up to the event with the very same agenda (or with the intention of grubbing out on one of the three succulent, crispy-skinned pigs that the Outlet spit-roasted just for the occasion).
Despite the throngs of fellow wine-lovers and deal seekers, I accomplished my mission handily and snatched up several bottles of domestic cab/merlot, some Australian Pinots and a half-bottle of Pinot Grigio (love those little bottles for weekdays dinners) - all for less than $45. Since the Outlet is well, an outlet, the inventory tends to be composed of small quantities of closeouts and changes frequently. But Kinssies' long-time relationship (over 30 years in the industry) with wholesalers and importers guarantees that you will find some true gems at bargain prices.
The new space is much cozier and less warehouse-like than the original SoDo retail spot on First Avenue South and includes a dedicated parking lot. Free tastings from at least a half dozen bottles are always available. No wonder we can't get enough of this place.
