Shopping in Seattle
Wednesday, November 7th, 2007
I recently attended the opening of Richard Kinssies' second Seattle Wine Outlet location hoping to score some good, cheap vino for my upcoming birthday party. I'm not talking cheap like Trader Joe's "two buck Chuck," but definitely under $15 a bottle. When I arrived at the opening, I was delighted by the number of options in this price point. And overwhelmed by the number of city folk who also showed ...

Just because Seattleites are considered quintessential coffee drinkers doesn't mean there isn't room for tea in our lives. Stop in to Gilman Village in Issaquah and find the Tiger Mountain Tea Company for a virtual cornucopia of teas. The décor inside the store is reminiscent of a more tropical place. Don't feel too overwhelmed when you see the beautiful wall of teas. Beautiful glass jars filled with even more beautiful ...

Talk the talk, Walk the BeatWalk
Ten years ago, you wouldn't have wanted to go south from downtown that far, there wasn't really that much to do in Columbia City. But, while developers were planning the future of funky Belltown, made attractive by artists, said creative types were priced out of the neighborhood. On my regular Saturday morning sojourn to Essential Bakery on Madison this weekend I was delighted to find a new shop had set out its sandwich board. The sign was a lovely shade of robin's egg blue, surrounded by scripty brown text and without even reading what wares were being offered I thought "ooh, this looks girly and fun!" I ventured inside and was not disappointed. Delicately fragranced homemade soaps, ...

Head for West Seattle for a vibrant Summerfest street event. Last night Beau and I worked up an appetite at Pegasus, one of our favorite second hand book stores. Fred, the owner had lowered the price of the front-of-the-store-stacks to 50 cents a book, for the benefit of the Summerfest visitors. Pegasus is smack next door to Easy Street Records Cafe (where ...
