Agua Verde in the U District

Agua Verde Cafe is a relaxed, waterfront restaurant that serves excellent Mexican cuisine. I am particularly fond of the Bagre tacos: spicy catfish with a creamy avocado sauce. Add a fresh mango margarita and you pretty much have a perfect meal. They also have a variety of other taco fillings ranging from fried cod to yams. Tacos are served with the house rice and beans, if desired.

Agua Verde Cafe has indoor and ...

Cafe Amore in Belltown

Although I did not go on a romantic date there, Cafe Amore would be an ideal setting for such an occasion. This is especially true regarding the interior of the cafe. The lighting is soft and warm, the service unobtrusive, the music appropriately muted. To further the ambiance, old black-and-white movies play on the far wall of the restaurant (no sound). In addition to the surroundings, I also enjoyed the food. ...

Tutta Bella Neopolitan Pizzeria

Tutta Bella is perfect when you are in the mood for fresh, thin-crusted Italian pizza. The pizzas are the perfect size to share between two people and not be overly full. There is even room for a salad as a starter (though I suggest a small, large would be too much food). The last time I went, my boyfriend and I shared a Ciro pizza (tomato sauce, prosciutto, mozzarella, mushrooms, garlic, basic, ...

Lunch at Tacos Guaymas

When the craving for hearty Mexican food hits, Tacos Guaymas in Capitol Hill is an ideal choice. This popular lunch destination is a casual eatery where you order at the counter and the wait staff bring it to your table. Menu items are listed on a board behind the counter: tacos, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, flautas, chile rellenos, etc. I have had both the fish burrito and the super taco salad. Both ...

The Byzantium Restaurant - Seattle

Byzantine
Capitol Hill
601 Broadway E
(206) 325-7580
Non-Smoking

Picked up Beau downtown after work, crossed I-5 at Spring Street, zigzagged to Broadway on Capitol Hill and drove north, with promise of good food.
Before leaving home my mind went out to Yanni's the Greek on Greenwood whose grilled chicken is to die for. I always order the whole bird, even when Beau wants something else, those leftovers... yum! If we wouldn't see anything that triggered ...

No doubt anyone with a stomach who is going to be in Seattle this weekend is looking forward to the 26th year of The Bite. However, if you're like me and don't adore the inevitable throngs of people and lines associated with the event then look no further than "The Alley." For $8.50, you get a plate to hold tastes from six top-notch local restaurants (we're talking Crush, Volterra ...

Eartha Kitt at Jazz Alley July 31-August 5 (Cat Woman Returns for Extended Engagement)

Two years ago on my birthday, I was lucky enough to have a front row seat to see the legendary, iconic, one of a kind, Eartha Kitt at Jazz Alley.  As we entered, the maitre'd said Ms. Kitt preferred having men close to the stage.  I'll never forget her in her long flowing form fitting gown, heels and the dips she made.  Not bad for a septagenarian.  One of her numbers ...

BEST Steaks at Melrose Grill in Renton

While living on the East Side we discovered one of the best steaks to be savored in the area at The Melrose Grill which was established in 1901 with the first owner/founder's fortune earned in the Alaska Yukon Gold Rush.

Renton's tourist slogan is "Ahead of the Curve," and its recent revival shows a re-gentrified city becoming.  My favorite is a medium well tenderloin washed down with a gin martini.  Visit ...

Lunch at Saigon Pearl

When I am in the mood for simple and hearty Vietnamese food, I think of Saigon Pearl. It is a good lunch spot, because the portions are large enough without being too heavy. Admittedly, I have only had the pho there. They serve it in the traditional style with bean sprouts, lime, cilantro, and hot peppers on the side. There is also garlic chili and hoisin sauce for extra flavor. I got ...
