Redhook Brewery Woodinville, WA

It takes a skilled drinker to tell the difference between joking and serious issues while holding a fresh poured Winterhook in your hand.

The tour at Redhook Brewery in Woodinville did not disappoint!  The tour guide was cute and quick witted as she poured and talked about the difference between ales and lagers, hops from Yakima, and the fact that the failed batches go to Coors light or O'Douls.  Okay she ...

John Mayall, Godfather of British Blues, in Seattle at Jazz Alley

John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers at Jazz Alley Seattle

Last evening was opening night . John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers appearing tonight though Sunday, 9/9, at Jazz Alley, www.jazzalley.com, rocked the full house crowd, exceeding all expectations but only fitting this 73 year old English blues legend.

The band and sound was so tight it squeaked! ...

First Fridays BeatWalk - Columbia City - Seattle

Talk the talk, Walk the BeatWalk

Ten years ago, you wouldn't have wanted to go south from downtown that far, there wasn't really that much to do in Columbia City. But, while developers were planning the future of funky Belltown, made attractive by artists, said creative types were priced out of the neighborhood. So the first brave ones ventured south, to Columbia City and Georgetown.

These days, with the innovative housing ...

Sleuths + Mystery Lovers - Seattle

Step up to the occasion August 10-19

Put your walking shoes on and head on over for a mysterious 5K walk-about in the Phinney Neighborhood.

I may be wrong, but I believe the Mystery starts with a lost Gum shoe at the Phinney Neighborhood Center or the 7 Roasters but Hearthstone has got something to do with it. Don't ask me what it's all about, check ...

Cafe Amore in Belltown

Although I did not go on a romantic date there, Cafe Amore would be an ideal setting for such an occasion. This is especially true regarding the interior of the cafe. The lighting is soft and warm, the service unobtrusive, the music appropriately muted. To further the ambiance, old black-and-white movies play on the far wall of the restaurant (no sound). In addition to the surroundings, I also enjoyed the food. ...

Buckwheat Zyedeco at the Triple Door

This is a past tense review.  But I must say those of us who attended Buckwheat (Stanley Dural Jr's) Zyedeco this July 12 at The Triple Door will never be the same.

The music is infectious, intoxicating, toe-tapping, sing along, gyrating, down-home Louisiana Cajun fun.

I've described the Triple Door at 2nd & Union as "Heaven's Waiting Room."  Lord, I'm ready to go!

The band was tight, the audience dancing was a sight ...

BEST Steaks at Melrose Grill in Renton

While living on the East Side we discovered one of the best steaks to be savored in the area at The Melrose Grill which was established in 1901 with the first owner/founder's fortune earned in the Alaska Yukon Gold Rush.

Renton's tourist slogan is "Ahead of the Curve," and its recent revival shows a re-gentrified city becoming.  My favorite is a medium well tenderloin washed down with a gin martini.  Visit ...

West Seattle Summerfest

Summerfest

Head for West Seattle for a vibrant Summerfest street event. Last night Beau and I worked up an appetite at Pegasus, one of our favorite second hand book stores. Fred, the owner had lowered the price of the front-of-the-store-stacks to 50 cents a book, for the benefit of the Summerfest visitors. Pegasus is smack next door to Easy Street Records Cafe (where ...
