Sleuths + Mystery Lovers - Seattle

Step up to the occasion August 10-19

Put your walking shoes on and head on over for a mysterious 5K walk-about in the Phinney Neighborhood.

I may be wrong, but I believe the Mystery starts with a lost Gum shoe at the Phinney Neighborhood Center or the 7 Roasters but Hearthstone has got something to do with it. Don't ask me what it's all about, check out the links! Rumor is though, that the Senior Citizen Center benefits from your extra miles put in!

What I do know for sure, is that all roads on Phinney Ridge lead to the Red Mill.

What happens next
is a mystery (although Lonebrat might know, since he's one of the Inspectors.

You can bet your gum boots you'll be seeing a Zoo starting the week of the 10th.

Phinney Ridge Mystery Week, you've got to love it!

Its no longer a mystery - Red Mill has the BEST burgers. Ever since Oprahs friend Gayle named it as one of the 20 best burger spots in the country the mystery has been solved. Order the Double Bacon Deluxe with Cheese and make sure and ask for it RARE so it will be nice and juicy (based on Gayles recommendation and an article in GQ magazine called the 20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die by Alan Richman.

Emeraldcityblogger,

Thanks for commenting.
There's never been a mystery around Red Mill having the best burgers in Seattle. They have had the best burgers in my book since I came to town in 1994.

However there are plenty of things O's friend Gayle and I disagree about and one of them is the way to cook a burger (one of the many other things is her love for the idiotic Reverend Run).

Why not to have a rare burger:
Harmful bacteria live on the outside of meat. When you grill a steak those little buggers are killed. However, when the meat is ground, the bacteria are nicely mixed around and around. When you have your hamburger rare, those feisty fiends start war inside your godly body.

My device: HAVE YOUR BURGER cooked well. Especially if you're pregnant, a young one or elderly.

Best way to cook a burger well, without killing it to death and creating carcinogens by burning it, is to make a hole in the middle (like a dough nut). That way, once cooked it's still juicy, the bacteria are dead.

Anybody who prides him/ herself for having a cast iron stomach and bacteria resistant guts, go right ahead have 'em rare.

Btw I did use to eat steak tartare, but that was in a different country, a different era and at a different age. The very best is made right on your plate mixing the ingredients into the finely ground raw steak mignon. http://www.luxuryweb.com/html/steak_tartare.html
