Arrive early, have dinner and you'll get better seating. This is a life event if you're a rock-blues fan. Mayall's the "Godfather of British Blues" and God Save the Queen!
As a naive high school student in Tacoma, I saw the bands the Byrds and Yardbirds together at the University of Puget Sound Field House. A young band member and guitarist had his heart in playing the blues and sought out John Mayall for collaboration. That Yardbird guitarist was Eric Clapton who went on to join Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce to form "Cream."
John McVie and Mick Fleetwood worked with Mayall on concepts for another little British group which was to be known as Fleetwood Mac. The list of those groups and individuals influenced by Mayall goes on and on.
Tickets are only $24.50 and I wouldn't miss this one. Note: This isn't one of those face lifted franchised nostalgia casino circuit tours! Check out John Mayall's website to get the historical perspective.
A dozen years ago I had a meeting in Las Vegas and saw that B.B. King was in town at the Dessert Inn. Then age 70, I knew I needed to see him and bribed and tipped my way in to see his review. He's still out there performing at age 82, but the Vegas opportunity was special.
I thought the same when Leon Russell played the Triple Door. It was too loud, condensed, quaduple beats and he should have just phoned it in to save us all the embarassment.
Seattle native, Judy Collins, also in her 70's played the Triple Door and she was angelic with a voice the timbre of a church organ.
Dianne Shuur played Jazz Alley, had a few good moments, whined to her hubby and this Seattle native never acknowledged the city or the audience.
I wanted to see Greg Allman, but it was a casino venue (90 minutes fer sure) I also wanted to see Dionne Warwick and Three Dog Night but they too were traffic builders for casinos. So, don't miss John Mayall, another legend in a venue that befits his dignity. Visit Mayall's website: www.johnmayall.com
I couldn't decide which of Cher's 4-5 Farewell concerts to attend here either.
I'll be seeing Wynonna at the Paramount, October 4th. I'm a sucker for a woman that belts out a tune. Only one more on my life list to see in person--and that would be Joni Mitchell
