The knitting activity will be held at 4:00 pm at the Martha Washington Library.

Join staff at Lake Accotink Park for a morning of fishing and fun on August 25, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Learn the wildlife-friendly catch-and-release fishing release fishing technique. Find out what species of fish live in the lake and how to protect their environment and your drinking water. Safety and environmental issues are also covered.

Bring your own pole and tackle or borrow one of ours; barbless hooks only. $10 per child, but accompanying adults are free.

Nature Night Hike

Bats, owls, and foxes come out at night to hunt for prey. Gather at Lake Accotink Park, and join in the walk from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm on August 24.

Join park staff for a nighttime hike over wooded terrain as we search for some of the nightlife in Lake Accotink Park. Experience the magic of the forest after dark! Participants will learn about nocturnal activities of the forest inhabitants.

Reservations required (703.569.0285), and bring a flashlight.

Music in the Field

Enjoy summer mornings at Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center. Bring your imagination for a presentation that reveals the many moods of music. Explore your emotionsl reactions to music while listening to a variety of pieces performed by the Fairfax Symphony's "Overture to Orchestra Woodwind Quintet."

The event, held on August 22 10:30 am - 11:30 am, is free. Just bring something to sit on!

Civil War Encampment Weekend

Federal and Confederate troops recreate Civil War daily life as reenactors demonstrate the varied work of the army. Skirmishes each day include infantry, artillery, and cavalry. Stop by the surgeon's tent to see how the sick and wounded were treated. Civilians show how life went on as husbands, sons, and brothers marched off to war. Visit the weekend encampment and discover a soldier's lifestyle during this turbulent time in America's history. House tour includes artifacts rarely on exhibit belonging to the Haight family, mid-19th century residents at Sully.

Join the activities on August 18 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and August 19 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Sully Historic Site.
