The Guenther House- Three San Antonio Attractions in One

For a little San Antonio sightseeing that's off the beaten path, make your way to the riverside grounds of Pioneer Flour Mills. It's easily recognizable from the blue and white tower that bears its name. There you'll find the restored 19th century structure known as The Guenther House. The cream-colored stone building is home to a restaurant, museum and retail store full of gift-suitable wares for your favorite cook or baker back home.
The Guenther House restaurant on the lower level features breakfast and lunch menus that showcase Pioneer Flour products. As you'd expect, menu staples include flour-powered items like pancakes, waffles and biscuits while lunchtime offers salads and sandwiches made with whole wheat buns baked on site daily. On a nice day, consider dining on the covered patio. Take a few minutes to pore over the restaurant's pastry case for a mouth-watering snack to go.
For you history buffs, a visit to the upper level's museum yields the story of the Guenther family and how its flour mill prospered from the late 1870's until now. You'll see photos and restored furnishings from that era. The retail store stocks gourmet baking mixes, syrup, preserves and specialty coffees. Don't forget to pick up a souvenir or two.
The area streets around the Guenther House may present you with a parking challenge. To save yourself some anxiety, be sure to enter the grounds from the South Alamo Street side and park in the free lot there.
