Shop, Dine and Unwind at La Villita Historic Arts Village
Just across the street from San Antonio’s Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, you’ll find a shopping, dining and entertainment destination that’s typical of the city’s charm. La Villita Historic Arts Village is a creative community that has its cultural roots in the early 19th century. San Antonio's earliest business leaders and craftsmen made the neighborhood their home and its eye-opening architecture ranges from Victorian era to Old Spanish Colonial.
La Villita is home to the laidback entertainment venue Arneson River Theatre as well the dining choices of Mexican-themed Guadalajara Grill, the rustic Little Rhein Steak House and the upscale riverside view of Fig Tree Restaurant. As for shopping, you can pick up distinctive Native American jewelry, original artwork and textiles within the confines of the little arts community by the river. If you’re fortunate enough to visit the city during the city’s annual springtime Fiesta, you can enjoy the much-anticipated Night in Old San Antonio (NIOSA) celebration.
Whether you’re in search of a casual walking tour, a shopping excursion or dinner and drinks with a view, I’d recommend at least one afternoon or evening spent in this sometimes overlooked downtown treasure.
