Zilker Botanical Garden for the Nature Lover
Zilker Botanical Garden (http://www.zilkergarden.org/) is located just East of Mopac by Zilker, in fact you'll take the Zilker Park exit from Mopac.
I like to visit during springtime when it's not too hot to be on foot. I always take a bottled water and snack for my son b/c his little legs get tired easily. If you have a back pack carrier for small children, I would highly recommended it b/c with the winding pathways - strollers can be a pain.
Their annual festival is coming up at the end of March and is a great way to spend your afternoon. Many local vendors showcase products including plants, honey, sweets to pottery and jewelry. You'll have to park across the street because it does get packed, but admission is $5 per person, free for ages 12 and younger. The best time to get those photo opportunities is NOT during the festival.
In fact you may find many brides, engaged couples and families out with a photographer because there are so many great photo opps.
Visit the 31 acres of different habitats and native, hybrid and exotic plants 7 days a week - the park is open 7am to 7pm. For more info call 512-477-8672.
