Eat, drink, and be elite at THE OAK BAR
If you want to be a baller in Nashville, check out the Oak Bar located in the Hermitage Hotel on 6th and Union. This is where the business elite, politicians, celebrities, and local high-rollers come to munch on beef tartar and sip Insignia.
The bar has retained the "good-ol'-boys" feel of the original operation, opened in 1910. In fact, when the hotel first opened, the Oak Bar was exclusively for men. Women had to get their drinks through a little stained glass window, which, although now out of commission, is still intact today. Men and women alike should also check out the men's bathroom, which is done in the original 1930's Art Deco-style decor, complete with shoe-shine station and retro telephone.
Inside, the bar is all wood-paneled with low lighting and the lingering scent of cigar smoke. The Oak Bar features an extensive wine list and a great variety of bourbons. For a truly Southern afternoon, try their Gentleman Jack Mint Julep cocktail and an order of Fried Green Tomatoes, served with pimento cheese. Because of the Hermitage Hotel's AAA five-star and Mobile five-diamond standards, you can expect a generally refined atmosphere and excellent service. However, like any bar worth it's margarita salt, the Oak Bar has a big-screen TV and you won't be out of place in jeans. Things can even get a bit loud and lively depending on groups staying in the hotel and events in the area. Yet for the most part the Oak Bar is the epitome of old-school, fat-cat Southern elegance.
