A new television show started airing last week at 6 a.m. Sundays on our local FOX affiliate, WFXB. It's called Myrtle Beach TV, and the show's producers, Warren and Marcia Walker of Myrtle Beach Inc., are doing a great job showcasing what they call "The REAL Myrtle Beach."

Many people who visit the Grand Strand area like to shop while they're here at our malls, especially the outlet malls. But there are also many, many antique stores, thrift stores, flea markets and consignment shops.

Darren Smith, chef proprietor at Rivertown Bistro in Conway, changes his menu at least four times a year. Conway is the Horry County seat (pronounced OH-ree County), which is 15 miles west of Myrtle Beach. It's a pretty small southern town.

When my family made its first trip to Myrtle Beach in 1996, a friend who already lived here told us to be sure and check out Broadway at the Beach (www.broadwayatthebeach.com/), which is off U.S. 17 Bypass between 21st and 29th avenues North.

“They have a street party every night!” he said. “You won’t believe what-all they have there.”
