Brunching in Charleston

It’s the weekend, and we all know what that means: time for brunch. Yes, brunch. Those few precious hours of our week where we can leisurely read the paper over coffee or catch up with friends over a stack of buttermilk pancakes. And for all those mimosa and espresso martini lovers, it’s the only time of week when it’s perfectly acceptable to drink before noon.

I take my brunching very seriously, but have found it’s the one drawback to living in Charleston. There are simply too many choices when it comes to the best breakfast spot.

So, how do you choose? What makes a great brunch experience?

Well, that all depends on you. When choosing, ask yourself what you’re looking for in ambiance, food selection, locale, and price. Would you like live jazz served with your steak and eggs? High Cotton is the place to be. Prefer a water view? The Water’s Edge overlooks the banks of Shem Creek. The Bookstore Café offers more of a laid-back, diner-like atmosphere.

Choices, ah, choices. You could spend hours trying to decide. But fear not, I have decided to search the city, investigate for you the best of the best when it comes to brunch in Charleston. And each week I will be highlighting a new brunch destination. Just to name a few:

High Cotton: Downtown

The Hominy Grill: Downtown

J Bistro: Mount Pleasant

The Boathouse at Breach Inlet: Isle of Palms

Of course, if anyone has a suggestion, please feel free to drop me a line.
