The Best Restaurants are "holes in the wall"...
Let me start off by saying that I am a Ragin' Cajun, so I know good seafood. That said, the absolute best seafood in Philadelphia is at a restaurant called Anastasi's that's located on 9th and Washington in South Philly. This seafood makes you want to line up your mom, grandmom, aunts, and the oldest lady in your neighborhood, and smack the living daylights out of them. In other words, this food is so good that you'll definitely want to slap your momma.
Okay, so what's with the title right? Well, Anastasi's is not exactly a gourmet restaurant. First of all, there are vendors selling seafood outside of the store, so it's kind of stinky outside. Also, when you first walk in, it looks kind of like the seafood section of your local grocery store. This is because it is a seafood store. But, there is a dining room and bar immediately adjacent to the "seafood store" area. But don't let it's close proximity to the "seafood store" scare you away. It's separated from the store area by a nice glass wall; it's very cozy; and did I mention...THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!
Philadelphia is so much bigger than Center City and Old City. Get out and explore some of its hidden treasures. You'll be glad that you did!
