Visiting the Oregon History museum with 6 kids

Can you blame us, really for not noticing the meter, what with children needing coats, snacks, faces wiped, potty visits, finding the shoes they weren't supposed to take off in the car, losing the lid to the water bottle and THIS awesome mural.

The Oregon exhibit was cool- pioneer stuff and Oregon history. One of the downstairs rooms was horribly boring, the paintings ...

Rumpspankers Beyond Broth

This is hands down THE BEST FOOD I have had in Portland, OR. It's a little known hole in the wall with a very cozy, quirky atmosphere, eclectic menu and funny, friendly staff: a husband and wife team.

Their menu consists of breakfast, lunch and dinner. American Pho', Sustainable Earth Salads, BBQ and Sandwiches. The Rosemary Potato Cakes are delightfully flavorful and the Black and Blue is the ...

Gustav's Pub & Grill

If you are looking for really ridiculously good German food for really ridiculously cheap prices then Gustav's Happy Hour is the way to go!

Gustav's also has excellent ambiance and stellar service!

I am addicted to their Swiss Cheese Fondue (only $3.99) and there is none that can rival their Happy Shepherd's Pie ($3.99 as well).

They have five convenient locations: Clackamas, PDX Airport, Portland, Vancouver and Washington Square.

Hours:

11 ...

La Calaca Comelona

La Calaca Comelona or The Hungry Skeleton in English is by far the only authentic Mexican restaurant I've been to in Portland, OR.

Their food and beverages are nothing short of exceptional. I chose the Torta Asada and a Tropicana. They were both packed with flavor and very generous portion wise. Whether you decide to sit inside or out, the atmosphere is spacious and decorative.

They are open ...

The Centennial Grand Floral Parade

resized.jpg

Yesterday I had the immense pleasure of being a part of Portland's Centennial Grand Floral Parade with the Beatles float. I was a groupie, dressed to the nines in my sixties gear and I had a BLAST. The weather could not have been worse (unless it had been snowing) and we STILL had fun. That tells you a bit about my group of friends!

We ...

The Old Market Pub & Brewery, Portland Oregon

8480121p1.jpg

Normally, when I tell people that I live in Garden Home, they try to console me, and it always makes me laugh. Those who don't know about The Old Market Pub & Brewery in Portland, Oregon (6959 SW Multnomah Blvd) don't understand that sometimes it's great to live in the 'burbs! I drive by OMPB every day on my way home and finally stopped ...

Portland's Festival of Flowers

If you feel like braving the crowds or happen to be out shopping downtown check out the Festival of Flowers (one of the many Rose Festival Events) at Pioneer Courthouse Square.  The installation this year is called "circles squared" and it's comprised of about 20,000 flowers and plants.  The event is free and you can walk amongst the installation and smell the roses!

I highly recommend taking the Max train downtown ...

See Portland by jet boat

Having lived in Portland for almost twenty years I finally got around to taking a trip down the Willamette in one of those super fun tourist jet boats. My beau and I took the two-hour excursion and I highly recommend it. It runs from North Portland all the way down to the Oregon City falls. Along the way we saw great blue herons, eagles, osprey nests, turkey ...

Serrato

2112 NW Kearney St. Portland, OR 97210
A great place to take someone special and perfect for larger groups. This sophisticated yet rustic trattoria offers various well drinks, wines and fresh dishes, such as cauliflower soup with pancetta and truffle oil and crunchy white beans with tuna, red onion, spinach and oregano. (which was by far the most excellent dish). A scone was split and stuffed with a vanilla custard like whip ...
