The Old Market Pub & Brewery, Portland Oregon

Normally, when I tell people that I live in Garden Home, they try to console me, and it always makes me laugh. Those who don't know about The Old Market Pub & Brewery in Portland, Oregon (6959 SW Multnomah Blvd) don't understand that sometimes it's great to live in the 'burbs! I drive by OMPB every day on my way home and finally stopped there about three weeks ago. I had a blast with Buckeye and we had a great waiter. Because OMPB has at least 20 beers on tap (and normally about a dozen of them are beers they brew themselves), we decided that we'd order a taster tray. You get a wide variety of beers on that taster tray - from their Old Granny Smith (Green Apple Ale A crisp golden flavored with Granny Smith Apples) to their Rat Dog ESB (A heavily hopped Extra Special Bitter Sold Out Early at the Oregon Brewer’s Festival 1998!) everything we tasted was great.

Old Market Pub & Brewery has a happy hour for both "happy" hour and late night; 3 to 6pm Sunday through Thursday and 3 to 5:30pm on Fridays.

The Old Market Pub & Brewery began it's career as a grocery store named Comella & Sons Market. It is a large pub with a long wooden bar, and I've heard, although I haven't seen, there is a big-screen TV in one of the back rooms. There are pool tables, a shuffleboard area and a group of fun wait staff. Our waiter helped us choose our beers when we were trying to arrange a tasting tray and was incredibly attentive of us while we were around. Both Buckeye and I had the pulled pork sandwich and we absolutely recommend it to anyone who is interested. Their Belgium White Wheat beer was tasty and smooth, and thoroughly enjoyable.

One of your herhangout readers here... will be traveling to Portland for business July 8-12, staying at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront. Where should I go for dinner (near the hotel) on Monday July 9? Anything fun to do nearby in the morning that same day?
