Wanna Dance?
Ballroom dance has been growing in popularity for some time now. Whether you want to learn to dance just to meet new people, or because your wedding is three months away, there are plenty of places in Portland to learn to dance!
The Ballroom Dance Company boasts the largest square footage (by 43 whole feet!) of dancing space in the nation. They offer $5 dances lessons on Sunday nights. From 7-7:30pm at the Capitol Hill Community Center a free beginning dance lesson is offered and then from 7:30-11pm, a dance party (with snacks, even!) is open to the public. "Our dances are open to anyone who wishes to attend: Just show up and enjoy dancing! Try out your new moves in a relaxed atmosphere with your teachers on-hand ready to assist you."
Dance With Joy "provides dance instruction in Ballroom Dance, Argentine Tango, Latin, and Swing. Choose from Private Lessons, Group Classes, Dance Parties, Special Events, and Professional Shows!" Every fourth Saturday of the month, Dance with Joy offers a 7pm lesson and then an 8-11pm Ballroom/Latin/Swing dance with your requests played! Punch, cookies and lessons are offered at the low price of $8/person and $6/high school or college students.
Dance Well's "mission has been to introduce students to the joy of the "ultimate" contact sport --- ballroom dancing. To create a positive, holistic and social atmosphere in which they may learn. To present "movement in partnership" information in a fun manner designed to help students improve skills and poise easily and at a fast pace. To continue this pace of learning throughout whatever areas of dance students wish to explore." At $12 a drop-in lesson, Dance Well has reasonable prices for those who suddenly get the urge to dance!
The Portland Swing Dance Club "is dedicated to the enjoyment, preservation, and growth of West Coast Swing in the Northwest. We were founded in 1999 to share the fun and excitement of West Coast Swing and welcome anyone and everyone to come dance."
Ballroom Parkrose offers small $11 group lessons in many types of dance. Their website is a little lacking, but you can contact them and see their schedule from what they offer.
