Charlotte Juneteenth Festival
The Juneteenth Festival Of The Carolinas will take place this weekend. Juneteenth, for those not in the know, is the oldest national celebration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Originating in Galveston, Texas in 1865, the commemoration of the end of slavery on June 19 has taken root in many communities nationwide.
The Charlotte celebration this weekend will take place from Thursday, June 14 until Sunday, June 17, and will feature music, drama, dance, storytelling, food, free HIV screenings, and African ballet among other shows and expeditions. The Juneteenth celebration raises money for scholarships and other community causes.
