I seem to remember it being Japan Day in New York a few months again (featuring a Japan Run in Central Park), but apparently there is also an NYC Japan Fair, and it's taking place tomorrow.
The fair features musical performances, martial arts demonstrations, karate classes, and of course plenty of food. And the NYC Japan Fair is centrally located in midtown at the Daytop Madison Avenue Festival, on ...

Lady Liberty's crown is open for business again. On July 4th 2009, the crown of the Statue of Liberty was opened to visitors for the first time since 2001. As you can imagine, there's a lot of pent-up demand to see the crown, and not a lot of room in it to accommodate people.
An article on the Web site NewYorkology.com tells how to get tickets to the Statue ...

Macy's 4th of July fireworks is headed back to the Hudson River for 2009. In honor of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson sailing down the river that bears his name and discovering Manhattan, Macy's will be firing off its 2009 4th of July fireworks extravaganza from barges on the Hudson River. For Jersey folks like me, that's an extra special treat.
The Macy's fireworks display starts at 9 p.m. ...

If you work in Soho, like me, you know that it's impossible to spend less than ten dollars on a lunch, or is it? There's endless crappy deli's, Mcdonalds, and even that will cost over ten dollars. Usually it's one extreme or the other, crappy expensive diners and delis or really expensive posh places that take a million years to eat at! It seemed like there ...

This list won't be ranked because rarely do people traveling go out of their way simply for a cup of coffee. Rather, these are great places to take a load off and recaffeinate, in locations around the city.
Cafe Grumpy [224 West 20th Street (btwn 7th & 8th Aves) in Chelsea and 193 Meserole Avenue (at Diamond St.) in Greenpoint, Brooklyn] - great coffee selection, nice latte ...

No visit to New York City is complete without taking in some live music at a little place that feels like your own after just one visit.
Everybody has heard about CBGB (RIP). The Knitting Factory has also become fairly well-known with a location in Los Angeles, as well as New York. But if you want to hear singer/songwriters in true New York fashion - and on the cheap! -look no ...

Food always is a big part of my holiday - and I'm pretty sure the same thing goes for you. As a vegan or vegetarian, sometimes it's hard to find the right place to eat. That search has spoiled my fun many times already!
This vegan chef is always on the look-out for good vegan and vegetarian cuisine in the city. It'll be my pleasure to introduce some of these delicious ...

I know, it can be hard to meet people being single in a big city, anywhere in the world. New York however is one of the friendliest cities to be a newcomer in - so make sure you make to use that fact as an advantage!
There are so many people here going to a movie, theater play or restaurant, having coffee or taking ...

Since I was a kid I've been drawing and painting. But things never came out the way I had imagined. Then one day I did a ceramics workshop. I was struggling with all the powders to create the right glazes. The colors come out totally different once painted ceramics are fired. When the kiln opened, I couldn't believe it - this was how I had always imagined colors to work! ...

One of the best places for comedy is a little place in Chelsea known as the Upright Citizens Brigade. Created by SNL's very own Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz, the laughter generated by these comedic talents should be bottled up and distributed to the tired and weary. The world would be a much happier place!
Amy, known for her weekly performances in SNL and her role in the teen movie Mean ...
