The sun will be shining on New York's Italian community tomorrow as the 2008 Columbus Day Parade steps off. Unseasonably warm temperatures of up to 76 degrees are forecast for the parade, which the organizers (the Columbus Citizens Foundations) call the world's largest celebration of Italian-American culture. Today, October 5th, is the day for the 2008 Atlantic Antic, the annual street festival on Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue. It's the final weekend of New York's biggest outdoor event to pig out on sausage and peppers, cannoli, and zeppole... the Feast of San Gennaro wraps up for 2008 on Sept. 21st.

The Ground Zero Museum Web site says on its home page, "IMAGES & REMNANTS FROM THE GROUND ZERO RECOVERY." It's a modest claim for a modest-sized museum, but the photos I've seen are quite powerful. Steel beams that will be used in building National September 11 Memorial & Museum have been to about half the states in the U.S., and now they've come home to New York City. On this September 10 and 11 the beams will be on display and the public is invited to come and sign them, and to write "notes of hope" that will be preserved in the museum.

Acclaimed singer Michael Bublé is coming to New York's Madison Square Garden on December 5th. Tickets go on sale Monday, September 8th, and the good seats are sure to go fast. Granted, the huge Garden is not the ideal venue to see this type of singer, but because of Michael Bublé's popularity I guess this type of arena is where he will be booked.
