2009 New York German Steuben Day Parade & Oktoberfest - Sat., 9/19

Oktoberfest comes to New York City on Saturday, Sept. 19th, and it looks like a glorious day for a parade and the other festivities. See the official Steuben Parade Web site for details.

The highlight is the 52nd ANNUAL GERMAN-AMERICAN STEUBEN PARADE on Fifth Avenue, which steps off at 12 noon and runs from 67th to 86th Streets. Once again there will be an Oktoberfest celebration in Central Park, near the Summer Stage area, starting at 1:30 in the afternoon. I went a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun, with live music and plenty of German food and beer. The best way to get to the Central Park Oktoberfest is to enter at East 72nd St.

A full week of festivities has already taken place, including the ever-popular German pub crawl, which took place last Saturday and once again sold out.

Get out to the parade and Oktoberfest celebration and have fun. Ein prosit!
