2008 Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting

Along with the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, the Rockefeller Center tree lighting is a sure sign of Christmas in the City. This year's tree lighting will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, after the obligatory televised pop music performances. See the page at NYCgo.com for (some) details and a map of the area.

The official NYC Web site doesn't have a whole lot more information, and even the official Rockefeller Center Web site has little detail on the big event. You'd think one of the biggest events of the holiday season would be getting more publicity. In any case, the tree lighting will take place at Rockefeller Center (48th to 52nd Streets, between 5th and 6th Avenues). The festivities will take place between 7 and 9 p.m., which includes a variety of musical performances. (The Rockefeller Center tree lighting will be shown on TV as well, in case you decide not to venture into the throng of people who will be crowding into Rock Center to watch it live.)

Traffic is always horrendous on this day, so don't even think of driving... do yourself a favor and take mass transit.
