Yankee Stadium Hosts Its Final Game Tonight

After 85 years, Yankee Stadium is hosting its final game ever tonight, September 21st. Andy Pettitte will be the starting pitcher for the Yankees against Baltimore when the game starts at 8 p.m., but the festivities will have started long before then.

Babe Ruth's granddaughter visited Yankee Stadium for the final time yesterday, and today fans will be allowed to walk on the field and tour monument park starting at 1 p.m. and going until 6:45 p.m.

A special ceremony will begin around 7 p.m., and no doubt many surprise guests will be present. Expected to attend are Yankee legends such as Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Goose Gossage, Ron Guidry, and Graig Nettles.

The new Yankee Stadium opens next April, right next to the current one.

Though today is the last game at Yankee Stadium, a gala, star-studded farewell ceremony will be held in November; the date has not yet been announced.

You can find out more in a special Yankee Stadium FAQ at the Yankees' official Web site.
