Waterfalls Coming to New York City
Visitors around the world visited New York three years ago to see "The Gates," a large public art display featuring orange banners. Now New York is getting ready to host a much smaller (but not necessarily less impressive) art display, "Waterfalls."
As its name suggests, it's a series of waterfalls in four different New York settings. Created by the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, the watery display will be set up at Pier 35 near the Manhattan Bridge; near the Brooklyn Bridge (on the Brooklyn side); near the Brooklyn Heights Promenade; and on Governors Island. The last site is not normally open to the public, but it is during the summer, not only for "Waterfalls" but for a series of outdoor concerts and other events.
"Waterfalls" will be unveiled on June 26th and stay open through mid October. The falls will be turned on at 7 a.m. and off at 10 p.m., and will be lighted after sunset.
