Neil Diamond Concerts at the Garden (and a Free Gig)

Neil Diamond, one of the most iconic singers and songwriters from the '60s and '70s, has a new album out early in May, and he's staging a full-scale world tour to promote it. Diamond will be performing two concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden as part of that tour, on August 12th and 14th. You can get Neil Diamond tickets at the Garden's Web site, www.thegarden.com/events/neil-diamond-0808.html

But he'll also be performing a short, free gig in New York as part of NBC's "Today" show on May 2nd, outside on Rockefeller Plaza. You can go there in person, or watch on TV to hear a selection of Neil Diamond songs both old and new.

It was Neil Diamond week on American Idol this week, with the prolific singer-songerwriter mentoring contestants and also performing some of his own songs. For folks who aren't that familiar with Neil Diamond's work, he had a long string of hits himself and also wrote songs that became famous covered by other artists (including "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" by Barbra Streisand and "I'm a Believer" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You," both hits by The Monkees).

Neil Diamond's own hits include classics such as "Solitary Man," "Sweet Caroline" (played and sung at every Boston Red Sox home game), "Love on the Rocks," "Kentucky Woman," "Cherry, Cherry," and many, many more.

Neil Diamond has always been known for putting on a good show, and at age 67 he's said to still be a solid showman.

For may of his fans, seeing Neil Diamond in his hometown of New York will be quite the event. Neil Diamond tickets are sure to go fast, so you might want to check the above Web site soon.

That show should be pretty good, considering his age and all. I can't wait.
