New York's Second Ave. Deli Reopens - But Not on Second Ave.
Fans of pastrami and pickles, rejoice... you'll be happy to know that the famed Second Avenue Deli, a Lower East Side institution, has reopened after being closed for nearly a couple of years. Just don't look for it in its former location... or on Second Avenue, for that matter.
The new Second Avenue Deli is retaining the look, name, and menu of its old location, but is located on 33rd Street between Third and Lexington Avenues. The old Second Avenue Deli, a favorite of New Yorkers and tourists alike for more than 50 years, had to close when it faced a massive rent increase (which was said to be a hike of $10,000 a month).
The new Second Avenue Deli is smaller than the original location, but is open 24 hours a day and has a liquor license.
